Chris Hughton has a point to prove as he takes his Norwich side to St. James Park to face former club Newcastle (10 am ET, watch live online via NBC Sports Live Extra). The Canaries may have won their last match, but after back to back losses to the Manchester clubs — with 11 goals conceded — Hughton’s position remains precarious, and he won’t want it to be Newcastle that pushes him out the door.
The Magpies, on the other hand, are flying high, having beat both Chelsea and Tottenham in their last two. There’s no question that Loic Remy will start up top for Newcastle — the on-loan Frenchman is on fire, with two goals from his last two outings and seven total this season, from just nine games. He’ll be paired up with Shola Ameobi to lead the attack. Mathieu Debuchy, who’s been excellent at right back this season, misses out thanks to a one-match suspension, but Newcastle will be comforted by the return of captain Fabricio Coloccini. Newcastle haven’t conceded in their last three matches, so the pressure is on to keep a clean sheet.
Norwich are still without Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who’s been missing nearly a month. But after Gary Hooper, Robert Snodgrass and Leroy Fer all scored in the second-half comeback against West Ham, the Canaries might not be missing their star signing quite so much. Snodgrass, though, misses out, while Anthony Pilkington returns. Still, the focus should be on Norwich’s back line: Russell Martin, Michael Turner, Ryan Bennett and Martin Olsson must stay concentrated to avoid similar results to their last road match, when Norwich lost 7-0 to Manchester City.
