There’s a tendency to every coaching change around Mexican giants Chivas Guadalajara through a comedic, absurdist lens, bu if Wednesday’s allegations carry a kernel of truth, the chaos many embrace with schadenfreude may have taken a more serious turn. In parting ways with head coach Ricardo La Volpe, Chivas announced the former Mexico national team boss was being dismissed because of “inappropriate conduct with a female staff member,” with legal action pending.[tweet https://twitter.com/Chivas/statuses/461579522626703360 width=400 align=center]
(In a press conference, Jorge Vergara announced Ricardo La Volpe is no longer with Chivas because of inappropriate conduct with a female staff member.)
Our partners are Soccerly have more context:
La Volpe had been hired following the humiliating 0-4 loss that Chivas suffered in the Super Clasico against Club America. The former Mexican National Team manager got Chivas within a win of making the playoffs but fell just short on the final matchday of the season.
Neither the owner nor Sporting Director Francisco Palencia confirmed whether the “inappropriate action” was verbal or physical.
Palencia did mention that they are now “mobilizing to find a replacement to take over the team’s preseason.”
According to other reports, legal action is being against La Volpe, though it is unclear if that action is legal or criminal. Regardless, Chivas owner Jorge Vergara has quickly distanced his team from a man who spent less than a month on the job, describing the complaint as “very strong and very unpleasant.”
