Dutch airline KLM had a go at Mexico after the Netherlands came back to beat Miguel Herrera’s squad late 2-1, sending Mexico home and advancing the Netherlands to the quarterfinals.
They sent out a picture of an airport “Departures” sign along with a silhouette of a mustached-figure wearing a sombrero.
The tweet read “Adios Amigos! #NEDMEX”
Royal Dutch Airlines has since deleted the tweet, but there still has been plenty of a response from various parties.
AeroMexico, for one, tweeted an “Arrivals” sign along with the text “Thank you for this great tournament, we’re proud and hope to see you home safe.”
Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal wasn’t so tactful with his response, tweeting a profanity-laced response that included “I am never flying your s***** airline again.” He has also deleted his tweet, issuing this apology:
I must say this: apologies to anyone who felt offended by my comments. I was caught by the football bug that spoiled my sense of humor.—
