The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is sweeping the internet–from your average joe to athletes and famous celebrities, and just over the weekend, $1 million dollars has been raised for the disease.
In MLS, a particularly interesting ice bucket challenge has taken place, and it was Portland Timbers manager Caleb Porter who spearheaded it. Nominated for the undertaking by ESPN analyst and former U.S. soccer player Taylor Twellman, Porter took the opportunity to douse himself in water for a cause.
And who else would he nominate but his coaching foe Pep Guardiola. Both men battled each other in the MLS All-Star game, when the best footballers in MLS defeated FC Bayern Munich, 2-1. Unhappy about the outcome and physical play from the MLS stars, Guardiola refused to shake Porter’s hand immediately after the match finished.
In the video, which was posted on the Timber’s Facebook and Twitter page, Porter called out USWNT star Alex Morgan and USMNT head coach Jurgen Klinsmann. He then made a handshake gesture while calling out Pep for the nomination, clearly poking fun at the whole situation.
