Bargain Bucket – A look at best free transfers & loans available from Adnan to Yedlin

While the world is focused on nine-figure megawatt transfers and the big-name clubs competing for them, several out-of-contract players and loan possibilities could help teams firm up their chances at everything from a Top 4 spot to Premier League safety.

So who are these names, and how much of a risk would they be?

[ MORE: Tuesday’s transfer rumor roundup ]

Joey Barton — The former QPR and Newcastle man is 32-years-old and has a combustible personality, but is certainly not among the top reasons the R’s were relegated last season. Could fill in the gaps as a minute-eater or final quarter substitute that adds a bit of steel to the side.

DeAndre Yedlin — Those in the know say the USMNT youngster is in high demand as a potential right wing on loan from Tottenham. Will he stay in England?

Ron Vlaar — The Villa man is out until the new year with a knee injury, but could see himself as anything from a lynchpin for a lower club’s defense to a depth move for old boss Louis van Gaal. His health will be a situation to monitor over the Fall months.

Dimitar Berbatov —  Fancy taking a chance on ‘The Incredible Sulk?’ The 34-year-old Bulgarian scored nine goals in 38 matches for AS Monaco last season, seven coming in Ligue 1 play.

Jonas Gutierrez — Certainly a ways off from his days as a plug-and-play midfielder for Newcastle, but the Argentine is a boon to any locker room and can give a lift to any midfield. Can play defender in a pinch, but does seem headed back to South America.

Adnan Januzaj (right) —  For a guy many have tipped for a surefire loan away from Old Trafford, the young Belgian has looked stronger, quicker and more confident this young season under Louis van Gaal… and more importantly he’s been on the pitch, too.

Wilson Palacios — Has the experience in English football if he’s willing to play an ancillary role. Otherwise, it’ll be off to the Championship if he wants to stay in England.

Yoan Gourcuff — Once a hot-button transfer target from Lyon, he has not signed for another club since his contract expired. At age 29, did he wait too long to come to England? Was linked with Arsenal earlier this window.

Michu —  Remember when he lit the Premier League on fire for a brief time with Swansea City? Well Garry Monk doesn’t want him around any more. Perhaps a loan move will do?

Also available for “free”: Oguchi Onyewu, Shola Ameobi, Cristian Ledesma, Carlton Cole.

Premier League 2015-16 season preview: Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace are all of a sudden everyone’s favorite second team. They are a team full of vibrant attackers who never say die and their fans create a boisterous and hostile atmosphere home or away. The Eagles are all set to soar into their third-straight season as a Premier League club.

[ MORE: All of PST’s season previews ]

Palace exceeded everyone’s expectations last year after a superb second half of the campaign following Alan Pardew’s arrival as manager. When former Palace midfielder Pardew left Newcastle for Palace in midseason they were in the relegation zone but they ended up finishing 10th. Remarkable. Palace have never won a league title and their best effort in the FA Cup came when Pardew was playing for them in 1990 but they lost to Manchester United in the final.

The south London club have a local rivalry with Charlton Athletic and Brighton and Hove Albion, both in England’s second-tier, while in the PL they will come up against London rivals Chelsea, West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Best possible XI:

—– McCarthy —–

— Ward — Dann — Delaney — Soare —

— Jedinak —– Cabaye —– McArthur —

—– Bolasie  —-  Bamford —- Puncheon —-

Transfers In: Yohan Cabaye ($20 million, Paris Saint-Germain), Alex McCarthy ($5 million, QPR), Patrick Bamford (Season-long loan, Chelsea)

Transfers Out: Shola Ameobi (Released), Steven Dobbie (Released), Peter Ramage (Released), Jerome Thomas (Released), Owen Garvan (Released), Lewis Price (Free, Sheffield Wednesday)

Cabaye will be the main man for Palace.

Last season: 10th in Premier League – After the sudden departure of Tony Pulis on the eve of last season, the Eagles were struggling under Neil Warnock up until January and then roared up the standings when he was fired and Pardew took his place. Pardew got the best out of Yannick Bolasie, Jason Puncheon, Glenn Murray and Wilfried Zaha as they won 10 of their last 18 games to finish in the top 10. It was a sensational season and the first time Palace had finished in the top half of the PL.

Star player: Yohan Cabaye – He hasn’t kicked a ball yet for Palace, but we all know Cabaye will become the heartbeat of the Eagles. The French international midfielder, 28, may turn out to be the best signing of the summer as Palace paid a club record $20 million to Paris Saint-Germain for the creative genius. Cabaye pulled the strings for Newcastle when Pardew was his boss, and expect plenty of the same once again as his deadly set pieces and inch-perfect passes will be just what the likes of Bolasie and Zaha need.

Coaches’ Corner: Pardew’s legendary status at Selhurst Park is growing by the day after his managerial success last season. He is known as “Pardiola” in his native south London, as he returned home to not only saved the Eagles from relegation, but also mastermind their best-ever PL finish. He has spent wisely this summer and if Palace get off to a good start, their goal of finishing in the top eight could happen. They are fun to watch with Pardew letting his forward players express themselves, but he is one of the best managers in the PL at getting his teams to keep their shape. All in all, Pardew and Palace could be on the cusp of a major breakthrough.

Alan Pardew

PST predicts: Sticking with the positive theme, Palace will be aiming to finish in the top 10 once again. Last season was the first time in club history that they were preparing for a second-straight season in the PL and they will look to build on that success and become an establish PL club. With mercurial talents like Puncheon, Bolasie and Cabaye around, Palace will look to kick things on. Despite issues with their defense, expect another season of progress from the Selhurst club.

Done Deal: Every move by a Premier League club in the January transfer window

After a busy, but not hectic, month since the transfer window re-opened and has now closed, there’s been a steady stream of business from Premier League sides.

[ RELATED: Deadline Day moves ]

On Deadline Day Chelsea splashed some serious cash to bring in Juan Cuadrado for just shy of $38 million after offloading Andre Schurrle and Mohamed Salah, while Manchester City’s $42 million purchase of Wilfried Bony and Arsenal’s $18 million capture of Gabriel Paulista were the other big moves over the past month.

The transfer window closes tomorrow, which means the next few hours will be filled with the madness that is deadline day.

With teams looking to make some last-minute moves, Crystal Palace added to their defense with the signing of Pape Souare from Lille. The 24-year-old has been playing for Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations and is the third signing by Alan Pardew, joining Jordon Mutch and Shola Ameobi as the newest Eagles.

Staying in London and it looks like Spurs will be looking to sell on deadline day. Sky Sports is reporting that the club is looking to offload at least three players, including Emmanuel Adebayor and Younes Kaboul. Adebayor has been ridiculed by fans for his poor play, and with the emergence of Harry Kane, has struggled to find the pitch under Mauricio Pochettino. Younes Kaboul has also seen his playing time dwindle, failing to feature in a Premier League game since November.

It is reported that Spurs are interested in MK Dons youngster Dele Alli, as the 18-year-old has seen his name rise to the top of the list as one of England’s most talented youths. The only problem for Tottenham is that Aston Villa and Newscastle are also keen on signing the striker.

Turkish side Fenerbahce have expressed interest in Edin Dzeko, who could be viewed as expendable by Manchester City with the depth they have at the striker position. However, Manuel Pellegrini said it was too late in the window for a deal to get done, and expects the Bosnian international to stay at the Etihad.

Over in Leicester, the Foxes are set to announce the arrival of Stoke City defender Robert Huth on loan for the remainder of the season tomorrow.
