Here we have a quote sheet from the Los Angeles Galaxy’s 3-1 loss Saturday to New England. You’ll see words that run a big range from frustration to more thoughtful explanation from four L.A. players and from manager Bruce Arena.
What you will not see is any sort of public accounting from David Beckham, the league’s face and voice and celebrated underwear model.
Arena said Beckham’s removal was tactical, and that he could have removed any one of 11 men for their flagging effort against New England.
But that does seem like an odd choice, to remove the side’s leader and top player – who didn’t seem to be doing any worse than the rest of them Saturday, if we’re being honest. (And certainly no worse than his troubled back line foursome.)
Perhaps it could have something to do with this. While that report from “ESPN Staff” is quite light on details, the British tabs are hyping a huge “bust-up” – which may or may not be anything more than Beckham and teammates Sean Franklin and Marcelo Sarvas exchanging words as they walked off the field at halftime. At any rate …
Keep your head up on this one. L.A. travels to Kansas City this week.
