ProSoccerTalk’s daily soccer re-set

What we’re thinking, what we’re watching, what’s coming on the blog today and the RASNoD (Random American Soccer Name of the Day). Setting up your day in soccer …

Birthdays of note: These are heady and hardy times for Stuart Pearce, the former England international, England under-21 coach, interim manager of England while they get their issues sorted and manager of UK’s Olympic team – a job that’s stacked with politics the way iHop is stacked with fluffy, buttery pancakes. And it’s his birthday! He turns 50. Considering everything going on, this is probably the very pinnacle of his life.

Big Important story of the day: See below. I mean, this is seriously important.

What you should be watching on TV: This is it. Either heavily favored Barcelona or feisty underdog Chelsea moves into next month’s Champions League final in Munich. The match is at Fox Soccer Channel (2 p.m. ET).

Ahead on the blog today*:  Running commentary on Barcelona-Chelsea, starting around 2 p.m. ET, chased by post-match analysis and reaction from events at Camp Nou. From events Stateside, we’ll have ProSoccerTalk’s weekly MLS rankings – possibly with a little shake of the Etch A Sketch since top-ranked Sporting Kansas City lost over the weekend.

RASNoD (Random American Soccer Name of the Day): Amy Rodriguez

Twitter dap: D.C. United midfielder Danny Cruz (@Dannycruz5), who just played a part in United’s 4-1 clobbering of New York and is about to face the team that just traded him: “Great result and we are staying humble! Huge 3 points and another big game next week against Houston  #cantwait”

PST background noise while blogging today: BBC radio in advance of Champions League.
