I started to show some mad math skills on this incredible Twitter usage during Tuesday’s Champions League semifinal, ciphering and extrapolating and such. Then I remembered: I got no math skills.
Still, even a numbers ninny like me can appreciate the volume of social media zipping around the globe during Tuesday’s Chelsea-Barcelona biggie.
According to this Market Watch piece from the Wall Street Journal, Twitter opinions – from merriment to lament and all points in between –were flying at one point at 13,684 messages per second, a new record on the social media platform.
That topped the previous mark, when a slightly smaller number slashed the Twitter night during last February’s Super Bowl, in the waning moments of the New York Giants win over the New England Patriots.
