Landon Donovan recorded his third career hat trick in the U.S. shirt on a night when he set a record just by stepping onto the field.
The U.S. attacker made his 125th career start, pushing past defender Jeff Agoos (124) on the all-time list en route to the team’s 5-1 win over Scotland.
The night was memorable all the way around. Those five goals were the most since a 6-1 U.S. win over Cuba in World Cup qualifying back in October of 2008, in Washington, D.C.
That was also the fifth win in a row for the United States, dating back to a victory over Slovenia last November (and including a 1-0 win over Italy, the signature win of the Jurgen Klinsmann era so far.) The Americans are now 6-4-1 under Klinsmann.
Here are the goals from last night’s dash past overwhelmed Scotland.
