To sum up Landon Donovan’s week:
On Wednesday, the U.S. international had two goals and an assist as Los Angeles rallied from two goals down to defeat first place Real Salt Lake in Utah. That’s quite a contribution from Donovan to a big Western Conference win.
Then on Saturday, Donovan added a goal and an assist as his Galaxy made early road kill out of Vancouver (a pretty good team itself) in a 3-0 win at the Home Depot Center. Los Angeles had its three-goal lead by halftime, with Irishman Robbie Keane supplying one of the strikes and earning a penalty kick for one other.
From coach Bruce Arena: “I think we’re slowly becoming a good team, and I think inside our locker room we understand what it takes to become a good team. It was an important week for us. We’re back in playoff contention, and there’s going to be a lot of difficult games ahead. … Hopefully, our guys have learned a lot in the first 16 games, hopefully learned enough to get us through the next 18 in better form.”
