Highlights and notables from Chicago-Houston draw

Looks like the Houston Dynamo have said “enough” of the shoddy defending that had slipped into the enterprise.

After allowing seven goals over two matches (the club’s most ever conceded in a two-contest set), Houston has allowed just one goal in the two games since.

The capper was last night’s shutout in a 0-0 draw with Chicago. The Fire managed just six shots all night, only one on goal.

Still, credit to Frank Klopas’ Fire, as well, for pulling a point out of BBVA Compass Stadium, where Houston remains unbeaten in seven. The visitors can be pleased to get out of Houston with the draw and can now direct their energies to Sunday’s big match in Illinois against David Beckham and the Galaxy.

Other notables from Tuesday’s match in Houston:

  • Veteran striker Brian Ching, 34, came off the bench for a second consecutive contest. Is that his role going forward, with the starter’s minutes going to Mac Kandji and Will Bruin? If so, that’s a great element to bring off the sidelines.
  • Geoff Cameron sat out with a tender hamstring, but you have to wonder if there’s a little more to story, since a move abroad seems likely.
  • Chicago is unbeaten in its last four.
