Anyone think maybe Alessandro Nesta is looking at recent Montreal Impact defensive performance (of the “stinking up the joint” variety) and reconsidering his options?
The longtime Italian great has an offer from Montreal and may have already signed an 18-month deal, depending on which report you choose to believe.
But surely the backline frailty around Stade Saputo lately will deeply offend Nesta’s Italian sensibilities, those so closely attached to the love of Catenaccio and all things defensive in soccer. This is the land, after all, where they don’t just win the ball, they “conquer” it, as one Italian international defender once told me.
The Impact has allowed nine goals in the last three matches and 11 over its last four contests. I’ll get one of the number crunchers from Elias on the case, but I doubt it’s happened very often over 17 MLS seasons that one team has allowed three goals in each of three consecutive matches.
Help them, Alessandro Nesta, help them.
Here’s the third goal from Sporting Kansas City’s 3-1 win over Montreal Wednesday at Stade Saputo.
