If Seattle Sounders fullback Zach Scott were listed on the stock exchange, today would be “buy” time.
The man’s value is rising, if only because of the following quote, courtesy of the Seattle Times. Scott was speaking in the most appreciative terms of a giant tifo that Sounders supporters unfurled in his honor
It was so cool. It really caught me off guard. I hadn’t even seen it originally and then somebody sort of shoved me in that direction and told me to look. What an honor.
“The first thing I wanted to do is figure out some way to thank them. If I could’ve run up there and shook everyone’s hands, I would have. It was so cool, so unexpected, and for a guy who started out playing in the lower divisions and dreamed of getting to MLS, the chance to see your name on a huge poster was just fantastic.”
One thing that distinguishes MLS from other sports is greater accessibility, a greater connection and higher degrees of closeness that players share with supporters.
Scott has spent the better part of 10 years with the Sounders’ organization, which is obviously not lost on the fans at CenturyLink. So there are lots of reason to like and appreciate Joshua Mayers’ story on the Times soccer blog about the Scott tifo.
Here’s a good look at the Sounders fans’ gesture:
