Manchester City, backed by the billions of owner Sheikh Mansour, is about to “scoreboard” every soccer club in the world in terms of training and youth development facilities.
The club is well under way on construction of a new $325 million training ground and youth development academy on an 80-acre site adjacent to the Etihad stadium.
Consider the following as you watch the very cool “fly-by” computer generated video of this palatial exercise in facility opulence.
- The club’s “secondary” arena, the cornerstone of this new development, would be a pretty sweet MLS stadium – perhaps with just a few more seats added. It really is something else.
- Speaking of MLS grounds: BBVA Compass Stadium, the most recently opened ground, cost less than $100 million. Compare that to the $325 million figure for MCFC’s new developmental digs.
- I have no idea what it cost just to create this computer animation of the facility, but I’m guessing that it cost more than my car. And I have a fairly nice car.
