Things look bright and sunny around Goodison Park, where U.S. national team No. 1 Tim Howard and the rest of his Everton Toffies have launched the 2012-13 campaign better than anyone could have realistically expected.
It opened with a spectacular 1-0 win over mighty Manchester United, followed by a very professional 3-1 victory at Aston Villa.
A loss at West Brom and tie at home to Newcastle left a few wondering if the early success was more mirage than magic. But today’s resounding, deserved 3-0 win over outclassed Swansea City has left David Moyes’ men temporarily alongside Chelsea at the top of the EPL table.
Here’s what puts the cherry on this parfait: Saturday’s thumping came on the road, in Wales. Howard talked to the ESPN crew just minutes after the result:
“It was fantastic. From beginning to end, we put them under pressure. And that’s hard to do, especially here. But we did well and kept them out.”
Has there been a better start for Everton, Howard was asked? “Not since I’ve been here, and hopefully that will continue.”
