It’s still a little early out West, so we’ll need a little while longer to begin sniffing around for information regarding A.J. DeLaGarza, the Galaxy center back who needed to be helped into the locker room in first half of last night’s draw with Colorado.
It’s a knee injury of unknown extent. What DeLaGarza told Adam Serrano of the Galaxy Insider Blog:
Just Pain. That’s all I can say, I don’t know what’s wrong. They don’t say what they think is wrong, but I don’t want to jump to conclusions.”
Rookie Tommy Meyer was steady over about an hour of replacement duty alongside Defender of the Year Omar Gonzalez. (The goal came before DeLaGarza left the field.)
As I mentioned last night in game analysis of the 1-1 draw (a bit of a snoozer after about 25 minutes, when most of the life was inexplicably sucked out of this one), this will not crush the Galaxy defensive efforts the way Gonzalez’s long absence did earlier this year. On the other hand, none of the alternatives will have DeLaGarza’s steadiness nor his important, familiar relationship with Gonzalez.
And one more thing: let’s all remember that Bruce Arena is famous for playing games with injury information regarding his team. So, remember that, no matter what we hear later today about DeLaGarza’s injury.
