Chris Wondolowski: one goal from making MLS history

The man they call “Wonder Wondo” snaked his way through a ridiculous crowd to bravely put his head into a tangle of menacing body parts and nod in goal No. 26 for the season.

That leaves the Earthquakes striker one shy of Roy Lassiter’s all-time record of 27 goals in a season from all the way back in 1996, the Major League Soccer’s inaugural year.

At the very least, the certain 2012 league Golden Boot winner – I mean, what, is someone going to score 10 next week? – will match Mamadou Diallo and Stern John for second-best individual MLS goal-scoring season yet.

Here was his second-half header Sunday evening against Los Angeles.
