“Super” Frank Lampard still has something to say about Chelsea

In many ways, Frank Lampard has been Chelsea over the last decade and change.

Which is why his ongoing contract drama is such a huge matter around Stamford Bridge. Chelsea will apparently not extend the longtime England international’s contract, which means he could be on the way out – and quite soon. The winter transfer window opens Tuesday.

Was Sunday’s contest the last we might see of Lampard’s days in Chelsea, the very last hurrah for a man in uniform for the Blues for more than 500 matches?

If so, what a show — as traveling fans from London chanted “Sign him up!”  His 44th-minute header was a wonderful goal, and an important one as the equalizer against Tim Howard and Everton.

His second-half game-winner was more scrap than technical craft, but never mind that. It was a vital goal in Chelsea’s ambition to get back into the chase for top spot, one that must be taken increasingly serious as Chelsea keeps winning behind manager Rafa Benitez. So Lampard had both goals in a 2-1 win at Everton.

Afterward, he was asked about those ongoing contract negotiations, if there had been any progress toward a resolution?

No, and I haven’t been talking in the last couple of weeks. I’m just concentrating on keeping on playing. If I can be playing and in a winning team, and feeling I can be myself, and that gives me satisfaction, then what will be will be.
