New York has given away leads this year – and it has definitely hurt Mike Petke’s team, which was expected to contend for the Eastern Conference title but has looked something less than title contender-esque so far in 2013.
Luckily for the Red Bulls on Saturday, they came up against a team that deals with the same affliction.
It looked like RBNY goalkeeper Luis Robles would be on the hook for a late Red Bulls capitulation. Tim Cahill had given New York a lead just before the half, and Petke’s team held the margin until just before final whistle.

Robles came charging out of goal for a ball he had no business going after; New York’s ‘keeper has two big center backs to deal with floating balls that land 16 yards from goal. When Robles couldn’t collect the ball, Jonathan Osorio’s skillful chip beat the scrambling, erring goalkeeper.
But it was Cahill to the rescue at the other end. Ashtone Morgan’s flubbed clearance for TFC set up the chance, and Cahill’s second goal on his most productive afternoon yet for the Red Bulls helped his team collect all the points.
It was a deserved three points, too, because his team controlled the play against a team that was missing something at home. Young attacker Luis Silva was having a deflated afternoon, and Justin Braun’s early injury left the home team’s attack a bit punchless.
