Bale would “listen” to offer from Real Madrid, should he?

Oh, soccer agents, you guys are a lovely bunch.

Gareth Bale’s ‘adviser’,¬†Jonathan Barnett, has given out the biggest indication yet, that Tottenham Hotspur’s most prized asset would be more than willing to see what offers are out there.

Bale, 23, is coming off the back of one of the most impressive seasons ever by an EPL player. He scooped up both the PFA Player and Young player of the Year awards and struck home 21 league goals from an attacking midfield position. A new contract is reportedly on the table for him in North London.

But his agent has told a Spanish television show that if Real Madrid’s President Florentino Perez came calling, Bale would sit down to chat.

“If somebody like Mr Perez was interested in Gareth Bale it would be a great honour and we would listen.”

But Barnett didn’t stop there, oh no, he then went on a mission to knock down Neymar’s talent and the Brazilian’s move to Barcelona, insisting Bale was way ahead of him.

Bale is better than Neymar. He’s proved himself in the best league in the world. Listen, it’s crazy, but whatever Neymar cost, Gareth Bale is worth more. I would hope that any club who wants him, wants him not because they lost Neymar. I would think he’d have to be their first choice.

So do we agree with these comments? Almost certainly.

But how much exposure does the Brazilian domestic league get compared to the English Premier League? So maybe Neymar is superior to Bale but we haven’t seen enough of him to suggest that?

That’s all up in the air.

But should Bale leave Spurs? Is now the right time to leave a club that realistically sees gaining fourth spot in the EPL the same as winning the league title?

(More: Bale set to re-sign with Spurs – is it the right move for him?)

A player of Bale’s quality should be challenging for trophies every single season, Real Madrid would certainly allow him to do that.

His agent ruthlessly throwing his name out their into the Spanish press will do no harm in facilitating a move. So well played, sir.

With Bale signed on at Spurs until 2016, a new contract is soon to be waved under his Welsh nose. Will he sign of will he waver?

It’s going to be a rough summer with all this Bale speculation, Tottenham fans.
