Brazil blocks pair from helping Bayern attempt the treble

Bayern Munich are fuming as the Brazilian Football Confederation have blocked Dante (pictured) and Luiz Gustavo from participating in the final of the German Cup.

The German side are attempting to complete one of the most dominant trebles in European soccer history, but they’ll have to do it without the pair, who were required by the Confederation (CBF) to report two weeks early for the upcoming Confederation Cup.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has no choice in the matter, as the final falls under the FIFA international window that countries are allowed to recall players during.

“Bayern Munich can’t do anything, we are compelled to comply,” raged Rummenigge. “I would have liked to have had a debate about it.”

Rummenigge discussed how the move puts immense pressure on the players, describing it as “psychological terror” and saying, “I find it inhuman, ruthless, unfair and unacceptable. What that means for the Brazilians and their relationship to their national team, one can only imagine.”

The chairman pointed fingers at both the German Football Federation and at FIFA for having overlapping calendars, which created the issue.

Bayern’s Javi Martinez will also be competing in the Confederation Cup, but was allowed by his country Spain to compete in the German Cup final.
