Over the weekend Jermain Defoe has been consistently linked with a move away from Spurs, and with Roberto Soldado now on board, Defoe is edging towards the exit. West Bromwich Albion have apparently handed the England international a lifeline to stay in the Premier League, with Championship side Queens Park Rangers the other interested party. Defoe, 30, can still score goals and is a predator of the highest caliber in England’s top flight. WBA would love to link him up with Nicholas Anelka in an attack full of pace an instinctive finishing. Defoe is unlikely to be a regular starter at Spurs so a move to another PL side is necessary for him to keep his England career alive
Elsewhere in North London, Arsenal are looking to acquire highly-rated Saudi Arabian international Omar Abdulrahman from Oman club Al Ain. Abdulrahman, 21, is one of the finest young talents in the Middle East and had attracted interest from Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Schalke in the past. But Arsenal want to seal the deal soon. He can play on the wing or as an attacking midfielder and his fluid style of passing play suits Arsenal. But is this the type of transfer Arsenal’s fans want to see? Another promising youngster who is unproven in the Premier League? No doubt Abdulrahman is a top, top player, but a more established name would be welcomed by many at the Emirates.
While Newcastle United are set to add an attacker talent of their own, with French forward Loic Remy apparently in the North East to have a medical with the Magpies. Remy will join Alan Pardew’s men on a season-long loan from Queens Park Rangers, after he turned down a move to Newcastle back in January to join QPR. But now Remy could link up with Newcastle’s large French contingent at St. James Park. The 26-year-old forward scored some stunning goals for QPR and was the shining light in their dismal 2012-13 season. Teaming him up with Papiss Cisse could be an extremely fruitful partnership for Les Geordies.
Fulham are also close to signing a player from QPR on a season-long loan, with mercurial talent Adel Tarabat set to switch Loftus Road for Craven Cottage. Tarabat, 24, wants to play in the Premier League this season and following QPR’s relegation he’s made it clear he doesn’t want to stay at the R’s. Scoring stunning goals and full of all kinds of flicks and tricks, Tarabat’s talent on the ball is mesmerizing. He would fast become a fans favorite at Fulham, but his attitude on and off the pitch has often been questioned. If he can get his head down and work hard, the Moroccan international could be one of the signings of the season for Martin Jol. If he’s used in the central attacking role, Tarabat can rip open any PL defense with ease.
Tottenham and Arsenal are set to slug it out for Real Betis’ young winger Alvaro Vadillo. The 18-year-old talent has been described at “the new Cristiano Ronaldo”… no pressure, son. But even though Spurs have been tracking his progress for quite some time, Arsenal may now nip in and steal Vadillo. The Spanish youngster is keen on a move to the Emirates after excelling in his first La Liga season last year. But do Arsenal, once again, really need another young starlet to spend years of time and effort developing? It seems like Vadillo will contribute straight away, but look what happened to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain over the last two seasons. Regardless, Vadillo is one of Europe’s most talented young wingers.
