Liverpool want Granada defender Guilherme Siqueira

Jose Enrique, when fit, was a regular in the Liverpool starting XI last season – but that doesn’t mean Brendan Rodgers is dropping his attention from the left back position. The Reds’ boss is reportedly looking for a bit of competition for the Spaniard, and it seems Guilherme Siqueira sits at the top of his “want” list.

The 27 year old defender spent time in the youth systems of both Brazil and Italy before beginning his senior career at Udinese. But Siqueira never managed to break into the zebrette side, notching just 24 league appearances over the five seasons he was owned by the club. In 2010, the defender went on loan to Granada, the Spanish side that has become, more or less, an outlet for Udinese players who cannot find a starting role in the Italian side. In 2011, after winning promotion to the first division, Granada bought the player. Siqueira had finally had a home, becoming a regular starter and scoring 12 goals over the last two seasons.

Now it seems Siqueira may be resigned to the bench once again, should he be purchased by Liverpool. Granada are prepared to let him go for around £6m, but the Reds are not yet willing to pin all their hopes on the Brazilian.  A deal for Benfica’s Lorenzo Melgarejo has reportedly fallen through, but there’s still a possibility of snagging Valencia’s Aly Cissokho. The Frenchman has stated that he’d like to stay in Spain and fight for a place in Miroslav Djukic’s side, but with Valencia strapped for cash, Liverpool may be able to negotiate a good price.
