There are a couple of exceptions — non-conformists who deviate from the UEFA pack to promote the use of qualifiers in blogs — but for the most part, the European summer transfer window’s going to close at 11 pm. London time next Monday. In the interim, expect transfer activity to pick up, especially as teams try to finalize deals before this weekend’s set of games, futilely hoping to avoid next Monday’s shenanigans.
Every day between now and then, we’ll close each day with our Done Deal report, one that’s particularly thin today. Across Europe’s big five leagues, there were no major deals Monday (or Sunday, we’ve cheated a little here). There were, however, some loan deals that helped teams thin out their squad:
SPAIN
Sevilla – Helping demoted Queens Park Rangers deal with their bloated payroll, Sevilla’s agreed to take Stephane Mbia on loan. The Cameroonian international can play both in defensive midfield and central defense, and while he never made a major contribution after arriving in London from Marseille, he could regain some usefulness beyond the confusion of Loftus Road.
ITALY
Bologna – Martí Riverola, a Barcelona academy product who spent time in the Netherlands before joining Bologna in 2011, secured a season-long loan to Mallorca, expressing his happiness to be back in the Primera Division. Riverola made one appearance for Bologna last season, his first with the club.
Hellas Verona – The newly promoted side, who used a Luca Toni brace to upset Milan on Saturday, loaned out two of its own players on Monday. 19-year-old Pasquele De Vita will play at third division side Pavia, while 21-year-old midfielder Mattia Spezzani will play at Pro Vercelli, also in the third division.
Juventus – The Serie A champions loaned out 19-year-old Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Appelt Pires to Spezia, who play in Serie B.
Parma – Emmanuel Casione, a West Ham United product, was loaned out to Cesena in Serie B, two days after the 29-year-old’s transfer from Pescara was finalized.
FRANCE
Montpellier – An actual transfer! 22-year-old Moroccan international Yassine Jebbour has finalized his move from Stade Rennes. The right back moves to the 2011-12 champions for €1 million.
Lyon – Harry Novillo, who spent last season on loan at GFC Ajaccio, completed his move to Mons in Belgium. Novillo appeared at both U-17 and U-19-level for France.
Sochaux – Sloan Privat, a 24-year-old striker how debuted for Sochaux in 2007, completed his move to Gent in Belgium, signing a four-year deal.
