Jonjo Shelvey goes from hero to zero in two minutes

The Monday night matchup between Swansea City and Liverpool started with a bang, as Swansea midfielder Jonjo Shelvey had a hand in two goals in the opening moments. Unfortunately for him, they weren’t both for his team.

Just a minute and a half in, he attempted a volley from 25 yards out that he scuffed, only to inadvertently put himself in perfect position to slalom through the Liverpool back line.

Liverpool defender Martin Škrtel slid to block his first effort, but Shelvey tucked the rebound inside the far post with his left foot. It was a dream start for the former Liverpool player, putting one over early on the first-placed team.

On the stroke of the three-minute mark, his fortunes turned.

Just outside his own penalty area this time, Shelvey attempted a backpass with the outside of his foot that ran through Swansea’s central defenders and right to Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge easily slotted the ball in, capping what was likely the most eventful three minutes of Shelvey’s career.
