Neymar has his first league goal with Barcelona (Video)

It wasn’t dramatic, difficult, or even that memorable. And if it wasn’t for Claudio Bravo tying himself up on Alexei Sanchez’s cross, Neymar would still be scoreless in La Liga. But goals come in all different forms, and while he’s sure to score many beautiful goals throughout his Barcelona career, this was not one of them. This would have been put home by almost any attacker in the world.

Regardless, Neymar is now on the scoresheet in the Primera Division, with the final movement on today’s score beginning to the right of goal, outside Real Sociedad’s penalty area. Sanchez moves wide of La Real left back Alberto De La Bella, avoids helping left winger Antoine Griexmann, and cuts a ball into the six-yard box. Bravo appears to misread the pass, doesn’t come out to cut it off, allowing Neymar to finish into an empty net for the fifth minute goal.

Barcelona has since gone up 3-0, with Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets giving the reigning Spanish champions a decisive lead after 23 minutes.

Though Neymar had recorded five assists in his eight all-competition appearances, he’s only found net one other time in his Barcelona career. His headed goal late in the first game of the Spanish Supercopa against Atlético Madrid held up through a scoreless second leg, proving the decisive score in Barcelona’s 1-1, away goals win.

Arsenal title tracker – What do Gunners need to win the Premier League?

Eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table with 10 games to go, what do Arsenal need to win their first Premier League title in 19 years?

[ MORE: How to watch Premier League in USA ]

Mikel Arteta has his young side on the cusp of a pretty remarkable and very unexpected Premier League title win.

With a solid defensive unit, perfectly balanced midfield and the likes of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard having fine campaigns in the final third, there is so much to love about this Arsenal team.

But how, and when, can Arsenal seal the Premier League title they crave? How many points do they need to gain? What are the scenarios based on their huge game against Manchester City in April?

How many points do Arsenal need to win the Premier League title?

With 10 games remaining, there are many different ways the Gunners can win the Premier League title.

In its simplest form: if Arsenal win nine of their final 10 games they will be crowned Premier League games.

The magic number for Arsenal to reach is 95 points. If they reach 95 points, Manchester City cannot catch them.

But if Man City beat Arsenal in their huge game at the Etihad on April 26 and win their game in-hand, Arsenal will need to win all nine of their other remaining game to be sure of the title. That would give them 96 points and Man City could only finish on 94.

If Arsenal drew against Man City then Man City could only finish on a maximum of 92 points. That means Arsenal would need eight wins from their remaining nine games to win the title as they would have 94 points.

If Arsenal win at Man City then Man City would only be able to reach 91 points. So, Arsenal would only have to win seven of their other nine remaining games to seal the title.

All of this proves just how massive the Manchester City vs Arsenal game on April 26 is in deciding the title winner.

When did Arsenal last win the Premier League?

They last won the Premier League title in the 2003-04 season, the famous ‘Invincibles’ campaign as they didn’t lose any of their 38 games that season.

Think Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Freddie Ljungberg, Sol Campbell and Robert Pires in full flow and Arsene Wenger with a huge smile on his face on the sidelines. Magnificent.

When did Arsenal last win a trophy?

The last trophy Arsenal won was the FA Cup in the 2019-20 season, they also won the FA Community Shield in 2020.

Both of those trophies were won by current boss Mikel Arteta.

Which trophies have Arsenal won?

Here are the list of trophies the Gunners have won in their history:

  • FA Cup (14 – Record)
  • Premier League/First Division titles (13)
  • League Cup (2)
  • FA Community Shield (16)
  • European Cup Winners’ Cup (1)
  • Inter-Cities Fairs Cup (1)

Manchester City vs Liverpool player ratings

MANCHESTER — Manchester City demolished Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium as Pep Guardiola’s side kept the pressure on Arsenal in the title race.

[ MORE: Analysis as City hammer Liverpool ]

An incredible second half saw City surge away from Liverpool, as Mohamed Salah had given the Reds an early lead.

However, Julian Alvarez equalized before the break and then Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Jack Grealish all scored in the second half to turn it into a routine victory.

Below you will find Manchester City vs Liverpool player ratings out of 10, with analysis on who stood out and who struggled.

Manchester City player ratings

Ederson: 7 – Hardly had anything to do. Some lovely passes out of the back, as always, in the second half.

John Stones: 7 – A few shaky moments in the first half in his hybrid right back/central midfield role but always looked to get on the ball.

Manuel Akanji: 7 – Such a solid player. Great on the ball, good positioning. Always one step ahead.

Ruben Dias: 8 – What a leader he is. Organizing all the time and drove City on from the back.

Nathan Ake: 8 – Had Harvey Elliott in his back pocket and some lovely passing to set up City’s attacks.

Rodri: 7 – Lucky to get away with not being sent off in the first half for two yellows. His usual robust and calm self aside from that.

Ilkay Gundogan: 8 – What a wonderful player. Scored a goal and kept popping up in dangerous areas.

Riyad Mahrez: 9 – Brilliant. Assisted on the key second goal and City got him the ball time and time again. Caused havoc down the right.

Kevin de Bruyne: 8.5 – Goal and assist as KDB took over the game in the second half, as he so often does. He makes this game look so easy.

Jack Grealish: 9 – Goal and assist and he is loved by the fans. Probably his best display in a City shirt.

Julian Alvarez: 8 – Got his goal in the first half to equalize and always kept trying to get in-behind. Proved City will be just fine whenever Haaland is out.

Liverpool player ratings

Alisson: 6 – Could do very little on the goals and made some good saves.

Trent Alexander-Arnold: 5 – Another game to forget defensively as he couldn’t cope with the trickery of Grealish. Good long ball to set up the move for Salah’s goal.

Ibrahima Konate: 5 – The movement of Alvarez and City’s other forwards was just too much for him.

Virgil van Dijk: 5 – See above. A sloppy performance and he was very poor on the ball too.

Andy Robertson: 5 – Again, another Liverpool player who just couldn’t keep the ball and was caught out at the start of the second half for the crucial second goal.

Jordan Henderson: 6 – Tried his best to get Liverpool going and won plenty of challenges early on. Couldn’t keep up the intensity.

Fabinho: 5 – Really poor display. Lost his runners and ran out of steam in the engine room.

Harvey Elliott: 4 – Gave the ball away often, Klopp was incensed with his negative passes and just a real off day.

Mohamed Salah: 7 – The one Liverpool player who can hold his head high. Great finish for the goal and always a threat.

Cody Gakpo: 6 – Worked hard but didn’t really happen for him in the deeper No. 10 role

Diogo Jota: 6 – Worked hard and did really well to set up Salah’s goal. Great to see him getting back towards his best.

Bournemouth vs Fulham, live! Score, updates, how to watch, videos

Bournemouth host Fulham at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday hoping to take another huge step towards Premier League safety.

STREAM LIVE BOURNEMOUTH v FULHAM

The Cherries stunned Liverpool in their last home game but were brought back down to earth with a thud as they were hammered at Aston Villa before the international break. Still, Gary O’Neil’s side are just one point from safety with 11 games to go and have a real chance of staying up. Plus, some of their January signings look like real gamechangers and this game between the newly-promoted duo delivered a thrilling 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage earlier this season.

Fulham have struggled in recent weeks as they’ve lost two in a row in the Premier League and then their incredible meltdown at Manchester United in the FA Cup quarterfinal saw them crash out of the competition with Aleksandar Mitrovic, Willian and manager Marco Silva all sent off. Add in that Mitrovic and Silva were both charged by the FA and it was an absolute mess with Fulham’s talisman losing the plot as he pushed the referee. The Cottagers will be hoping for a straightforward trip, and win, down to the South Coast to get them back on track.

Kick off: 10am ET, Saturday

Key storylines & in-form players to watch

Gary O’Neil has set Bournemouth up to be dangerous on the counter attack and that works well against teams who love to dominate possession. Fulham love to do that and this tactic could suit the Cherries in this game. Dominic Solanke has led the line superbly, Neto has been excellent in goal and Dango Ouatrara has been sensational since arriving in January as his speed and direct running has given Bournemouth an extra dimension.

Fulham have just lost their way after an incredible season so far. They are still in the battle for European qualification as they sit in the top 10 and now they have to finish the campaign strong to keep positive vibes flowing. Marco Silva wants them to snap into challenges, press high and keep the ball when they have it and they are horrible to play against.
