West Ham United travel to KC Stadium on Saturday afternoon, hoping to build on their midweek Capital One Cup win against Cardiff by taking points off Hull City (10 a.m. ET, watch live online via NBC Sports Live Extra).
West Ham must have been having frightening flashbacks on Tuesday night, going up 2-0 before 10 minutes were up, only to have Cardiff come back to equalize with 15 minutes left to play. Ricardo Vaz Te bagged a dramatic late winner, saving the Irons from the sort of embarrassment they faced last week against Everton. West Ham took the lead in the 79th minute, only to have captain Mark Noble sent off five minutes later. The Toffees immediately struck back, with Leighton Baines equalizing and Romelu Lukaku scoring to give Everton the 3-2 win.
But will West Ham’s midweek win have helped lift their spirits? And if so, will it be enough to fire them past newly promoted Hull?
The Tigers are unbeaten at home, unbeaten in their last three matches in all competitions, and are coming off a come from behind 3-2 victory at Newcastle last week. Robert Brady scored the first, Ahmed Elmohamady brought Hull level early in the second half, and Sone Aluko sent a lovely volley off the upright for the winner. All three start against West Ham.
