It took less than 20 minutes for Arsenal to take the lead against Norwich, thanks to a fantastic team effort that saw them weaving through the Canaries defense. A win at the Emirates today puts Arsenal in sole possession of the top spot, after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Newcastle earlier this afternoon.
Unsurprisingly, Arsenal approached this match looking to impress their style upon it, making neat, short passes and forbidding the visitors access to the ball. It’s a method we’re quite used to seeing from the team at the top of the table, but even so, the opening goal was still a thing of beauty. A series of one touch passes brought the Gunners into the final third. Santi Cazorla sent the ball to Jack Wilshere, who flicked it on to Olivier Giroud before running past the Norwich back line. Giroud sent a perfectly weighted ball into Wilshere’s path, making it look so easy when the midfielder put the ball past John Ruddy.
Norwich have done nothing to suggest they’ll threaten Arsenal’s three points thus far, with the hosts maintaining the majority of the possession and allowing just one shot from the Canaries. With Norwich still sitting in the drop zone, they’re going to need quite a rousing halftime talk from Chris Hughton if they want to see any of the ball, much less nick a point.
