Championship club has a new scheme to attract fans

With England’s top two tiers on a break for internationals, Yeovil Town has had plenty of time to consider its future. The Glovers might be at the bottom of the Championship table, four points from safety, but they’re already planning on how best to give themselves a boost.

The overarching goal? Attract a new generation of fans, ones that might be otherwise drawn to the glitter of, say, a high spending Manchester City, or the storied history of a Liverpool. Yeovil may have been founded back in 1895, but they’ve only been in the Football League for the past ten years, reaching the Championship for the first time after winning last season’s playoffs. Without the fame and glory — and cash — that comes from being a Premier League side, the club is looking for new ways to attract fans. And what they’ve come up with is, shall we say, creative.

Yeovil Town are set to launch a girl band. Yes, you read that correctly. Auditions will be held in the beginning of December and the successful girls will go on to perform at home matches for the remainder of the season. The group is to be based on the Pussycat Dolls and they will record a single to be released for charity.

In a way, this fits with the club’s history. Back in 2004, prior to a 3rd Round FA Cup tie with Liverpool, the club released a record entitled “Yeovil True”. The song reached #36 on the UK Singles Charts, but Yeovil went on to lose 2-0. I daresay they’re hoping for a bit more success this time around.
