The Portugese superstar and Ballon d’Or favorite limped off the Juegos Mediterráneos pitch yesterday, substituted in the 54th minute of a match Real would end up well on top of.
Just 1-0 at the time of his injury – thanks to a goal by who else but Ronaldo himself – Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema would add goals of their own en route to a 5-0 rout of Almeria.
Unfortunately, the hamstring tweak took the headlines, but the dynamic left winger doesn’t believe the injury to be anything serious.
“It was a precaution. It was nothing special,” said Ronaldo to the Real Madrid official website. “They gave me a kick in the first half and I felt the muscle was a bit stiff.”
Manager Carlo Ancelotti echoed those sentiments and issued his own hope that Ronaldo may even be fit for their midweek Champions League fixture against Galatasaray.
“I don’t think it is serious because he is not in pain,” said Ancelotti. “It is a muscle strain so I hope he will be fine soon. (Sunday) there will be more tests, but we don’t think it is a big problem.”
Slight or not, it was enough for the pair to decide he should come off just nine minutes into the second half of a 1-0 game, and therefore it bears some significance.
