Premier League Top 5 Saves (Week 12): Marshall and Jääskeläinen prove their worth

Every week the netminders of the Premier League pull off some stunning saves. Week 12 was no different.

Here are the Top 5.

5. Asmir Begovic – Stoke City

Asmir Begovic has one foot in the Britannia and another in the Champions League.

In other words, it’s only a matter of time before he’s sold to a top Premier League club.

Could be Arsenal. Could be Manchester City. Could happen in January. But more likely will happen next summer.

Either way, it’s happening because no one in the Premier League – I repeat, no one – is a better keepr than Asmir Begovic.

His recent feat helped preserve Stoke’s win over Sunderland when he closed down Steven Fletcher and managed to get a left paw on the shot to deflect it wide.

4. Tim Krul – Newcastle

One Matchweek after making 14 saves against Tottenham to hand Newcastle a massive 1-0 victory Tim ‘Don’t Be’ Krul pulled off more spiderman like feats – stretching his limbs beyond their seeming length to pull off a stunning double save against Norwich City.

3. Maarten Stekelenburg – Fulham

We haven’t seen a lot from Maarten Stekelenburg at Fulham so far. But this save is a beaut – brilliantly dragging his left foot to save Nathan Dyer’s thump.

Great work from the Dutchman.

2. David Marshall – Cardiff City

Flicks off of re-starts are typically kryptonite for keepers. Throws them for a loop. Cancels out the gift of anticipation.

But not for David Marshall, who has proven himself quite the gatekeeper since arriving in the Premier League.

Here, Marouane Fellaini’s misdirection isn’t enough to fool the Scot.

1. Jussi Jääskeläinen – West Ham United

They don’t call him the Flying Fin for nothing.
