One of the brightest young talents in the Premier League has committed his future to West Bromwich Albion.

England under-21 international Saido Berahino has put in several impressive displays so far this season as the Baggies academy product has been rewarded with a new deal until 2017.

Berahino, 20, has been touted by many to become England’s next big star and has already scored six goals in four games for the Three Lions’ U-21 side. And one of the men who helped nurture the youngster originally from Burundi is delighted to see him rewarded with a new deal.

“To be able to reward one of our proteges, who has worked his way up through the ranks from the age of 11, is a great moment for the club,” West Brom’s Sporting & Technical Director Richard Garlick. “It’s a fantastic story for us and especially for our hard-working Academy staff, who have played a fundamental role in his development over the years.”

With many big teams chasing the lively attacker, West Brom moved quickly to tie Berahino down to a long-term deal. The club hopes his rapid rise into the first team is the first of many Baggies starlets to make the jump to becoming a PL regular.

“Producing one or two players who can supplement the first team is something we want to achieve every year,” Garlick said. “We hope this is the start of that process as we feel we have a number of other young, exciting players coming through. Saido’s progress should be an inspiration to all of the players within our Academy.”

The youngster, who can play up front or as an attacking midfielder, hopes to continue his sensational start to his professional career after he scored six goals in nine games this season for West Brom. He had the following to say on Twitter as he celebrated the deal which will not only seem him get a significant pay rise from his reported $1,200 a week contract, but also give him the perfect chance to catapult his career onto the next level for club and country.
