Another week in the Premier League means another group of stellar saves by some of the world’s best goalkeepers. Below are the Top 5 saves of the week.
#5 Boaz Myhill (West Bromwich Albion)
The American-born Myhill has taken full advantage of Ben Foster’s injury-plagued season and has been one of the few bright spots in the Baggies troubled season. On this save, Myhill goes unfooled by the innovative joint-shot by the Cardiff Peter’s, Whittingham and Odemwingie.
#4 Jussi Albert Jääskeläinen (West Ham United)
The 38-year-old Jääskeläinen is the main reason West Ham United has not slipped into the relegation zone. And if they don’t guys like Winston Reid and Andy Carroll up and running soon, not even the Flying Fin will be able to prevent the drop from swallowing the Hammers up. On Saturday, Jääskeläinen kept the match honors-even with his parry of Lee Catermole’s outside rip.
#3 Michel Vorm (Swansea City)
No Premier League goalkeeper has quicker reflexes than Michel Vorm. He proved that skill on Sunday when he deflected Gary Hooper’s left-footed stab in the 76th minute to preserve the 1-1 draw. The fact that the Dutchman made the save with a bum right knee, which he’s due to have surgery on this January, is even more impressive.
#2 David Marshall (Cardiff City)
Marshall is another man who’s kept his side out of the relegation zone and on Saturday his left-handed parry preserved all three points for Malky Mackay’s side. Top notch.
#1 Julian Speroni (Crystal Palace)
If you ask most Crystal Palace fans they’ll tell you they wouldn’t be in the top-flight without Julian Speroni. The Argentine produced some stellar saves in last weekend’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea but none better than this double save on Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba.
