Following Chelsea’s comfortable 2-0 win over Hull City on Saturday, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho couldn’t hide his pleasure.
With the win the Blues went top of the Premier League table, as Arsenal and Manchester City don’t play until later on this weekend.
But despite seeing his Chelsea side go top of the tree, Mourinho was more pleased with his teams controlled display.
“We never lost our balance, we kept our shape tactically, and we didn’t give them opportunities to score,” Mourinho said. “In the second half when we had a little bit more of the ball we intensified the game and recovered the ball higher, so I think normally the tendency would be for a goal. After that goal I was happy because we were in control, we didn’t go to defend. We controlled the game well.”
With 21 games gone and Chelsea leading the way, Mourinho was asked to give his side a mark out of 10 for how they’ve performed this season.
He paused, then gave the following response.
“We could do better because we lost some points that we shouldn’t have, but it could also be worse,” Mourinho said. “Not a five, not a 10. Seven, seven-and-a-half, eight – around there. They [Chelsea’s players] are doing well, they are enjoying it and now, let’s see how it ends.”
