Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani could be set for a move from Paris Saint-Germain this summer, as some of the Premier League’s big boys are on red alert.
Estimated to cost around $81 million according to these reports, Cavani is said to fancy a move to England following the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Only a few Premier League teams could afford that kind of transfer fee, and apparently both Chelsea and Man United are ready to lock horns to land the man known as ‘El Matador’ after his representatives were spotted in London.
But why would Cavani leave PSG, as domestic success is almost guaranteed and glory on the European stage looks to be just around the corner? Simple. He’s not playing in his preferred central position in order for Les Parisiens to accommodate Zlatan Ibrahimovic. This was always going to be a sticking point, as Cavani has been shunted out on the wing since signing last summer from Napoli for the whopping fee of $81 million.

The 26-year-old striker has scored 17 goals in 26 games for PSG this campaign, including four in five in the UCL. He has certainly delivered since arriving from Serie A and has been prolific his entire career with 118 goals from 145 games. Stats like those suggest Cavani is fit to lead the line of any team in Europe, and he should be given the chance to be the main man for a team challenging for the biggest titles.
Chelsea certainly need a new striker, but with Fernando Torres clicking back into form before his recent injury, they may resist the urge to splash out yet another fortune on a central striker. As for United, they have Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney leading the line, but the latter has still not signed a contract and reports out of Old Trafford suggest RVP is unhappy.
Will Cavani be the man David Moyes build his new-look Manchester United around this summer? Of course that’s dependent on the Red Devils making the Champions League. So maybe Cavani is off to West London instead? Who knows.
But whoever does make a run for ‘El Matador’ is getting a top player who guarantees goals. Can’t put a price on that.
