Mexico lays out pre-World Cup friendlies, including three US “home” dates

In the run up to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Mexico will take advantage of European team needs to acclimatize to the Western Hemisphere by hosting three matches… in the United States.

We already knew El Tri would play a friendly against the United States in Arizona outside of the international window, but Mexico has announced its competition ahead of their crucial Group  A matches against Brazil, Croatia and Cameroon.

Mexico begins its prep with a May 31 match against Ecuador at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas before shooting to the Midwest for a match against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Chicago.

Finally, the Mexicans will face Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal on June 10 in New Jersey as they host a match at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

Here’s the full World Cup lead-up for El Tri:

It’s an impressive slate of opponents for a team that’s begun to get off the mat from their near-collapse in the CONCACAF Hexagonal. Since Graham Zusi and the United States saved them in OctoberEl Tri has beaten New Zealand twice and South Korea once by a combined score of 13-3.
