The New York Red Bulls are officially in an early-season slump after failing to pick up all three points for the third straight game, dropping to 0-1-2 on the season after a 1-1 draw in Chicago on Sunday afternoon.
And it could’ve been worse if not for the heroics of Luis Robles.
After a loss at Chivas USA and a tie in Portland, Chicago (0-1-2) came out of the gates blazing in its home opener. The Fire won a corner in the fifth minute and Harrison Shipp’s kick from the left of goal was met by Jeff Larentowicz’s head for a 1-0 lead.
The advantage didn’t last too long, as Dax McCarty pounced on a loose ball in the 21st minute to equalize for the Red Bulls.
But that was it for the scoring, thanks to some superb saves from Chicago keeper Sean Johnson and especially Robles. The latter was especially brilliant, snaring and parrying like one of the league’s best.
