There have been plenty of negative off-field stories involving Luis Suarez, so it’s refreshing to read a story of the Uruguayan stepping out of his comfort zone to bring some positivity into a little boy’s life.
Our friends at Soccerly have the story of Suarez noticing kids playing with a Liverpool ball during what turned out to be a unique walk through a park last year, a story that’s just coming to life this week.
“It was a typical day at Calderstone’s Park in Liverpool for a 7-year-old boy with Down Syndrome as he kicked the ball around with his dad and his older cousin. Out of nowhere came a man who stole the ball away from the young boy to then challenge him one-on-one.
At first, the grown men were annoyed by the stranger’s presence. However, they finally figured out who he was and were shocked to say the least.
On Reddit, the man who took the picture of his uncle and his 7-year-old cousin narrated their particular encounter with Luis Suarez.”
You can read the rest of the story here. The Reddit user says the date with Suarez came during the scandals involving Suarez, Patrice Evra and Branislav Ivanovic. Suffice it to say that wherever you fall on the Suarez Spectrum, people are generally not as villainous or as virtuous as sports can make them out to be. In this particular instance, it’s nice to read a pleasant story… regardless of who it involves.
