Puyol defends Martino as Spanish report talks up Klopp to Camp Nou

Barcelona defender Carles Puyol says the club is behind embattled manager Gerardo “Tata” Martino “to the death” as rumors regarding the identity of his eventual successor continue to spread throughout the media.

Earlier today Kyle Bonn posted that Martino felt he was losing control of the team and expected to be out of a job by summer. And Sport is reporting that Borussia Dortmund mastermind Jurgen Klopp is expected to be candidate No. 1 to replace him.

The report reasons that Klopp has plenty of reason to leave his current club, with superstar Robert Lewandowski on his way to Bayern Munich one year after Mario Gotze left.

But Puyol and company remain focused on this season, with a Copa del Rey final coming Wednesday against fierce rivals Real Madrid and at least a puncher’s chance at rebounding from their descent to third in La Liga.

“We have a final ahead of us – one of the best possible games – and I want to assure the fans that we will be giving everything in the game,” Puyol said.

“The team is hungry, it wants to win and keep making history.”

Puyol also said there need not be a “revolution” if Barca fails to win the tournament or La Liga.
