What a strange few years for Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have clinched the League One title after successive seasons of relegation.
Wolves finished dead last in the Premier League in 2011-12 and then second-last in the Championship last season, but found their way back with a promotion campaign this season, earning the top spot after 3-1 win over Leyton Orient this afternoon was followed by Brentford’s 2-2 draw with MK Dons. Brentford had already been promoted.
It brings into focus the rest of the promotion playoffs for League One, with three slots clinched (Rotherham, Preston North End and Leyton Orient) and one looking likely after Peterborough beat Carlisle today. They have a four-point lead on Swindon Town with two matches to play.
Manager Kenny Jackett has now gained promotion for three clubs: Millwall, Swansea City and Wolves.
