Aron Johannsson won’t be the only United States World Cup player to be working under a new club contract after the tournament, as Timmy Chandler has signed a three-year deal to return to his hometown club Eintracht Frankfurt.
Chandler, 24, has been at Nurnberg since 2010, first with their second-tier club and then with the big club from 2011 until the club was relegated this season.
The defender surprised many by making Jurgen Klinsmann’s 23-man World Cup roster despite a significant late-season injury and an uncapped absence of more than a year.
Chandler made 95 appearances for Nurnberg, scoring four goals. Frankfurt finished in 13th place in the Bundesliga in 2013/14.
Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hubner said: “We are delighted that the transfer worked out. It’s nice that Timothy Chandler is returning to Frankfurt – a home-grown talent that left us returns back home.
“We wish him much success with the US national team in Brazil.”
