Kompany misses training with groin strain ahead of Russia match

Russia’s attack may get a reprieve from the stingy defending of Vincent Kompany when it faces Belgium on Sunday.

The Manchester City captain has a groin strain and missed practice on Thursday, just three days before a tilt with Russia that could clinch advancement for the Red Devils.

From the AP:

Coach Marc Wilmots called it a “slight” strain and said Kompany was working on an individual program with the medical staff.

Playmaker Eden Hazard made a return to training and showed no ill effects from a toe contusion sustained in Tuesday 2-1 victory over Algeria.

Belgium can advance to the knockout rounds if it beats Russia on Sunday.

Kompany played the entire match against Algeria, but Belgium is not loaded at center back. It’s certainly a big worry for Wilmots.
