Brazilian superstar Neymar was substituted out in the 88th minute of his country’s quarterfinal match against Colombia after taking a heavy knee from Juan Zúñiga into the small of his back.
According to media, Neymar was immediately taken to a local Fortaleza hospital, with AS reporter Artiz Gabilando saying the injury “does not look good.”
ESPN’s Jeff Carlisle says the 22-year-old was in “a lot of physical and emotional distress.”
There isn’t much more we know at this point, but with Hulk and Fred yet again proving wasteful and slow at the front, Neymar continues to be by far Brazil’s best attacking option.
Brazil will take on Germany in the semifinals, just four days from now in Belo Horizonte. If they were to win, the final is on July 13, while the third-place match is July 12 if they were to fall to Germany.
Neymar struggled against Colombia, completing just 22 of 31 passes and just three of his 10 attempted take-ons. He did, however, assist the opening goal with a corner kick, and he created four total chances.
UPDATE: Brazilian manager Luis Felipe Scolari says it will be very difficult for Neymar to make the match against Germany.
