Report: Eliaquim Mangala in advanced talks with Manchester City

With names like Diego Costa and Alexis Sanchez coming to the Premier League, teams are going to need men to help shut them down.

And it seems Manchester City is ready to score a major defensive coup, as the BBC reports the reigning Premier League champions are in “advanced talks” to sign Eliaquim Mangala.

The FC Porto defender, 23, is fresh off a World Cup run with France, and the 23-year-old is a big back with decent pace as well. For a cool $55 million (approximately), he may be headed to the Etihad Stadium.

From the BBC:

The 23-year-old came close to joining City in January and the club are hopeful of finalising a move next week.

Mangala played in all five of France’s matches at the World Cup, including their quarter-final defeat by Germany.

He began his career with Standard Liege in 2008 when they won the Belgian league and then joined Porto in 2011, winning two Portuguese titles.

Mangala and new addition Bacary Sagna would join a D-corps already boasting Vincent Kompany, Pablo Zabaleta and Aleksandar Kolarov amongst others.

City’s 37 goals allowed last season were the second-fewest allowed in the Premier League, 10 shy of Chelsea’s league-best and crazy stingy 27.
