Radamel Falcao’s heavy cost to Manchester United is in wages, not fee

When it came out earlier that Manchester United was set to sign Radamel Falcao on a season-long loan from Monaco for a fee of just $9 million, it seemed they had pulled off the steal of the transfer market.

That’s not exactly the case now that we know more about the deal.

Ed Woodward has indeed pulled off a loan deal for Falcao that will set United back by just a $9 million fee, but they also have to pay his wages.

All of them. And they’re huge.

According to The Telegraph, Falcao’s wages are a solid $575,000 a week, which amounts to $30 million over the season. And United’s paying all of that.

Allllll of it.

For a season-long loan, that’s bonkers. Insane.  And although it’s likely the same they’d be paying if they had snatched him up permanently, this is still a bigtime investment.

There have been plenty of pictures surfacing on Twitter to confirm Falcao’s presence in Manchester, as he arrived from Monaco on a private jet. It is understood through reports that he will travel from Manchester following the completion of his deal to Miami where the Colombian squad is scheduled to play Brazil in a friendly during the international break.
