After a long layoff following knee surgery, Radamel Falcao is ready to get his Manchester United career off to a quick start.
“For me it is amazing. I am very happy. I hope to give my team the best and help to bring a lot of goals and victories.”
A torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in January forced Falcao out of the World Cup, leaving many to wonder how far the Colombian team could have gone had their star striker been available. He then made the move from Monaco to Manchester on a year-long loan deal just at the edge of the transfer window, finally ending the rumors as to where his final destination would be. While he may face competition for playing time with Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney, Falcao never doubted that United were the right club.
“It is a dream come true to play for such a great and famous club. To bring the good times back is what we all want, and I will work extra hard to do that. I made the right choice to join Manchester United.”
After starting his career in Argentina for River Plate, Falcao moved to Porto where he developed into one of the most notorious goal-scorers in Europe. With 200 goals in just over 300 appearances for teams such as Porto, Atletico Madrid and Monaco, United fans will hope he finds his form quickly in Manchester after failing to find a win in their first three Premier League matches.
Falcao joins fellow South American Angel Di Maria as late signings by Manchester United, as they try to land a top-four finish in the Premier League. Di Maria’s speed and creativity on the wing will help open space for the likes of Falcao and van Persie, two of the most gifted goal-scoring strikers in the world. Add in the likes of Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo on the backline, and Louis van Gaal’s side already looks far improved from the start of the season.
