US Soccer released a video celebrating the international career of longtime captain Carlos Bocanegra, and it doesn’t disappoint.
Bocanegra recently announced his retirement, effective at the end of this MLS season. The 110-times capped defender scored 14 goals and was a consummate professional and leader, even backing Jurgen Klinsmann when the USMNT boss dropped him from the side.
After starting his career in Chicago, Bocanegra made the jump to England and established himself well with Fulham. He went on to represent Rennes, St. Etienne and Rangers before coming back to MLS in 2013.
I have a great deal of admiration for Bocanegra and always found a great deal of humor in the photo used above. It’s a shame he has to close down his career as a nightmare note of a season at Chivas USA.
