On Wednesday night there were three games in Major League Soccer.
Here’s a quick look at what happened, along with video highlights.
Montreal Impact 2-2 LA Galaxy
Wonderful game at Stade Saputo, as the Impact raced into a 2-0 lead but Gyasi Zardes inspired an LA Galaxy comeback. Montreal took the lead through Marco Di Vaio who slotted home, then Ignacio Piatti made it 2-0 just before half time as the Impact were flying. Not so fast. Right on the hour mark Zardes tapped home to make it 2-1. Alan Gordon jumped off the bench and two minutes later equalized as LA left Quebec with a 2-2 tie. Montreal are still bottom of the East, while LA are second in the West.
New York Red Bulls 1-0 D.C. United
A tight game at Red Bull Arena, as New York struck in the 90th minute through Lloyd Sam to grab all three points. D.C. United played for over an hour with 10-men as former RBNY striker Fabian Espindola was shown a straight red card by referee Mark Geiger. On second viewing, the red seemed very harsh as Espindola barely caught Dax McCarty in the stomach with his outstretched boot. The visitors defended bravely with Bill Hamid coming up with some big saves but New York scored late to win it 1-0 and stay in the playoff hunt as they moved back into the top five in the East.
Vancouver Whitecaps 2-0 San Jose Earthquakes
A first half penalty from Pedro Morales was added to a by Kendall Watson’s header as the ‘Caps were good value for their win. San Jose’s slide continues, with no win in their last seven games. As for Vancouver, that was their first win in six as they stay in the hunt for a playoff spot in the West.
