Brendan Rodgers didn’t minimize it. When asked about Daniel Sturridge’s injury, the Liverpool boss took a small shot at the international break, noting his attacker was injured on what would have been a recovery day at club-level.
“I think it was an injury that could have been avoided,” Rodgers said, saying Sturridge could miss three weeks. Averaging 4.3 shots per game, the 25-year-old will be a significant loss.
That loss will put more emphasis on Mario Balotelli, who will be Liverpool’s main scoring threat this Saturday against visiting Aston Villa. Ricky Lambert is also an option, but asked about the Southampton import during today’s press session, Rodgers seemed reluctant to include him among his starters. As Liverpool tries to score the second goal of the season against Villa, Balotelli may be on his own up top.
