  • City holds recent edge with 6W-4D-3L marker
  • Gunners haven’t beaten City at home since 2012

The Premier League returns from international break with an absolutely wonderful match-up between two of the league’s top side (Watch coverage at 7 am ET on NBCSN and online via Live Extra).

Both clubs are off to less-than-perfect starts, with City falling to Stoke City while Arsenal has managed only consecutive draws since winning on Opening Weekend.

The Gunners are pinning plenty of hope on new signing Danny Welbeck, who came over from Manchester United on Transfer Deadline Day and scored a brace for England against Switzerland during the break.

What they’re saying

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on Welbeck: “He was at Man United, where he had many big stars, and he is a player who is very versatile so he had to make room sometimes for players to play through the middle. But if you analyse in an objective way his qualities, I think he has the perfect style to play through the middle. He can make himself a better player [here] because I can help him. He’s a young boy, he’s not 24 yet and let’s not forget that some players who arrived here at the age of 23 made huge careers here so I hope we can contribute and help him.”

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini on City’s mentality: “We must always try to win, especially when you didn’t win the last game. We started better than I thought against Newcastle and Liverpool, with so many players having had just a few days to prepare. After that it was a surprise maybe to lose against Stoke but I don’t think we played badly.”

Prediction

City will be low on striker depth for this trip into the Emirates, while Arsenal should have plenty of buzz in the building. The odds seem to be in Arsenal’s favor, but if I had to pick a winner I’d guess City. That said, we’ll say a free-scoring 2-2 draw.
